Opportunity for neuropsychological assessment of a wide range of clinical conditions
referred to the service from Cognitive Neurology, Neuropsychiatry, & Family Medicine.
Types of patients most commonly seen include evaluation of normal aging versus early
dementia or Mild Cognitive Impairment (MCI); Alzheimer's type dementia; vascular
dementia; fronto-temporal dementia; Multiple Sclerosis; stroke; Traumatic Brain Injury.
Training in administration, scoring and interpretation of standard neuropsychological tests (e.g., Dementia Rating Scale, Baycrest-Kaplan Assessment of Neuropsychological Status; the Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale III; the Wechsler Abbreviated Scale of Intelligence; the Wechsler Memory Scale III; the California Verbal Learning Test II; Rey Complex Figure; Trail Making Tests A & B; the Boston Naming Test; Controlled Oral Word Association Test; the Wisconsin Card Sorting Test, Finger Tapping Test; Grooved Pegboard Test). Report writing – discussing interpretation of test results and cognitive profile obtained and writing clinical reports outlining cognitive strengths and weaknesses, possible differential diagnosis (e.g., normal aging vs MCI), and recommendations.

Supervision (i.e. Is there more than one potential supervisor? group and/or individual? How often? etc.)
Individual supervision 1-2 hours per week, depending on the number of days students are available to conduct assessments.

Opportunity to attend educational rounds and seminars as follows:

  • Behaviour Neurology rounds at Baycrest Centre (Weds 8-9 am)
  • Department of Psychology, Baycrest neuropsychology seminars (Weds 9.15-10.15 am)
  • Department of Psychology, Baycrest Centre journal group (every other Fri 3-4 pm)
  • Department of Psychology, Baycrest Centre research seminar (every other Fri 3-4 pm)
